U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran is allowing some oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as a sign of goodwill in the context of negotiations to end the war.
According to Trump, Tehran allowed ten tankers to pass through the strategic strait, which the American president described as a “gift” showing Iran’s seriousness in the negotiations.
Trump told reporters that Iran had initially announced the passage of eight large tankers, and that the vessels then headed north.
- I was watching the news and I would say something unusual was happening. Eight large tankers were passing right through the middle of the strait. Then I thought, they look serious and real. I think they were under the Pakistani flag. Then they apologized for something they said and added two more ships. In the end, ten ships passed – Trump said.
This move, according to Trump, shows Iran’s willingness to engage in diplomatic negotiations and calm the situation in the region.
