One police officer was killed and another seriously wounded in a shooting that occurred in a hotel room on the outskirts of Atlanta, after the suspect, under the pretense of reporting fraud, lured the officers and opened fire.
A Gwinnett County police officer was killed in a shooting in a hotel room on the outskirts of Atlanta, and another was wounded by the suspect at the hotel, officials of the U.S. state of Georgia announced today.
Gwinnett County Police Chief J.D. McClure said that the suspect called police around 7:30 a.m. local time to the Holiday Inn Express hotel regarding a report related to fraud or forgery, after which he let them into the hotel room, CBS News reports.
“At some point during the conversation, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot our officers,” McClure said at a press conference.

Police identified the fallen officer as Pradip Tamang (25), who joined the Gwinnett County Police Department less than a year ago. Tamang, originally from Nepal, emigrated to the United States about ten years ago and began his police career a year ago. Officer David M. Reed was seriously wounded in the shooting and is in stable condition.
Chief McClure said that one of the officers returned fire, hitting the suspect, who sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. The suspect was later released from the hospital and placed in the Gwinnett County jail.
Authorities identified the suspect as Kevin Andrews (35), whom police say has a long criminal history, including multiple convictions for crimes involving violence, firearms, and narcotics.
