“From Belgrade we create theatre with the belief that it will enrich our communities and fundamentally change people’s lives for the better” is the message on the website of the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry, England, which has held its foundations and name at that location for 67 years.
The Belgrade Theatre in England was built in 1958 as part of the reconstruction of the city of Coventry after the Second World War. It acquired its name as a token of gratitude to the capital of Serbia for the donation of timber, which was used for the construction of the auditorium.

– We strive to bear witness to the experiences of our community, find the unique voice of “Belgrade” in a regional context, and attract leading theatre artists. In short, to re-establish the vision, radicalism, and internationalism that marked the opening of the theatre in 1958 – they say from this theatre.
