Serbs living in America, specifically in Washington, have called on their neighbors to gather today at exactly 11:52 AM local time in front of the Capitol to show support for students in Serbia who have been blockading faculties in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, and Kragujevac for almost a month.

Students in Serbia started blockading faculties in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, and Kragujevac almost a month ago because they are demanding that the authorities finally prosecute those responsible for the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station, where 15 people died and two were seriously injured.

The students are receiving support in their peaceful actions from all sides – from farmers, actors, and high school students, more specifically, high school graduates who joined them in the blockade of schools last week.

And support is also coming from faraway America, from Washington, where today, at exactly 11:52 AM, Serbs living there will gather at the Capitol.

“Dear neighbors from the DMV area, we invite you to join the action in support of students from Serbia. The gathering will be held in front of the Capitol (Capitol reflecting pool) on Sunday, December 22, at 11:52 AM,” the invitation states.

They add that this gathering is an opportunity to show solidarity together and encourage positive change.

“Bring banners, messages of support, and your presence alone will be a strong message. Join us at this important moment and be part of the global support for our students. See you there!” the announcement states.

Incidentally, today at 4 PM, a large protest of students and farmers will be held at Belgrade’s Slavija Square.
